Basic Function:
The Senior Risk Management and Safety Specialist provides loss control service to clients located within a defined geographical area. Primary mission is to fulfill client service responsibilities as outlined in our client service agreement with the client and to help reduce financial loss in our workers' compensation program by recommending hazards/exposures controls, assisting with the implementation of effective safety programs and providing safety awareness training.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Provides safety services and safety training to clients in accordance with the Client Service Agreement.
2. Identifies poor performing clients from a Risk and Safety standpoint. Recommends those clients when appropriate to the Risk Improvement Program.
3. Conducts onsite safety surveys and client interviews to determine hazards and exposures associated with client business operations.
4. Evaluates effectiveness of client’s controls of the hazards and exposures associated with the client’s operations.
5. Documents the results of all onsite visits to client locations in accordance with Loss Control Department guidelines.
6. If required, submits written recommendation to the client suggesting controls of hazards and exposures.
7. Provides client with guidance on applicable OSHA regulations and on requirements for compliance with those OSHA regulations.
8. Must have sufficient understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel and ability to use the Internet as a research tool.
9. Must have sufficient knowledge of NCCI class codes to be able to periodically review the applicability of NCCI class codes used by clients and the NCCI Class Codes assigned at an employee level.
10. Pursuit and and maintainancee of Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Risk Management (ARM) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)is preferred.
11. Will attendance seminars for professional development offered by ADP TotalSource.
12. Will participate in special projects assigned by Loss Control Manager and/or Director of Loss Control.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's of Science degree in a risk management, engineering, safety or industrial health discipline is required. Appropriate experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Achieved and maintain one or more of the following professional certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Risk Management (ARM) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is desirable.
Experience:
Four or more years of practical loss control experience as Loss Control Representative working for an insurance carrier, other insurance-related business or Professional Employer Organization. Appropriate job experience in an industrial setting as a safety professional may be substituted for Loss Control Representative work for an insurance carrier, other insurance-related business or Professional Employer Organization experience. Post graduate education in risk management, engineering, safety or industrial health discipline maybe substituted for experience requirements
A good understanding of Workers' Compensation insurance and loss control is required.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations is required.
Working knowledge of NCCI class coding rules is desirable.
Generic Skills:
Strong oral, written and presentation skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to perform the basic job requirements without daily supervision is desirable.
Ability to use good judgment in assessing risk is required.
Must be able to handle conflict in a mature manner.
Understanding of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite especially Word & Excel and web-based software applications is desirable.
MUST posses a valid Driver’s License. |
